What’s worse is that Karter is still out there, and his family will do anything to find the last piece… This is where the good news ends: Briseis and her mother Mo are going through sudden grief, Briseis has to contend with the sudden arrival of her birth family into the picture and most importantly Circe has tried many years to find the final heart without success. Turns out there are six hearts and fortunately for Briseis she has five of them: the living elixir she has just made, the sudden arrival of her Aunt Circe with two of the hearts and Briseis friend and love interest Marie and Circe’s friend Persephone having taken two of the hearts physically, granting them immortality and superhuman strength. If she and her family can unite all the pieces of the plant Absyrtus Heart together by the end of the moon cycle (aka 28 days) then her Mom will be returned to life. Fortunately for Briseis, Hecate intervened, killing Mrs Redmond, scaring her son Karter away and injured, and giving Briseis a quest. Briseis’ Mom is dead, killed by Mrs Redmond aka Katrina who wanted the Absyrtus Heart’s properties and forced Briseis to make it as an elixir. This Wicked Fate by Kalynn Bayron follows directly from This Poison Heart and is the second of the duology.
